Ramadan at Masjid AlSalam

ANNOUNCEMENT


Assalamu Alaykum.

The Houston Moon Sighting Committee, which includes Imams and Scholars of various Islamic Centers and Organizations in the Houston area met on the evening of Sunday, March 10th and declaed that Monday, March 11th will InshaAllah be the 1st day in Ramadan.

Below you will find some useful links and key information about Ramadan specific events at our masjid.

Here is a list of the various Ramadan related programs and activities taking place at Masjid AlSalam this year, along with some rules and guidelines to adhere to.

RULES & GUIDELINES


Please adhere to the following rules and etiquettes when visiting the masjid this Ramadan - following these are essential for all attendees for a safe and tranquil experience at our masjid.

  • Please CARPOOL to avoid parking lot congestion. There is tremendous demand for parking during evenings in Ramadan and it makes everyone suffer.  Do a favor to yourself and others and carpool as much as possible.
  • No food is allowed in any of the prayer areas inside the masjid. Food should be consumed outside the masjid building or in the gym and must be properly disposed off.
  • Ensure you enter through the assigned doors. And children 5-9years are already dropped off at the designated babysitting area.
  • Please remain silent during salah and if children are restless and noisy please bring them outside the prayer areas.
  • Shoes MUST be put into the shoe racks.
  • Security guards will be present both inside and outside the building. Everyone is expected to follow the instructions provided by the security guards. If there are any complaints please do not directly engage with the security staff, rather bring it to the attention of any administration member, or post your comment on the Masjid' s website.
  • Drive SLOW within the masjid parking lot. There are children walking or playing in the parking lot at times (sometimes against rules) and they MUST BE PROTECTED.
  • Parents are requested to keep their children with them AT ALL TIMES. Please do not let them wander around by themselves.
  • In case of an emergency please follow the instructions provided by administration and the security staff.

TARAWEH & KHATERAH


  • There will be daily Taraweeh and Khaterah after Isha.
  • Isha iqama will be at 9:00 pm until March 19th, and at 9:15 pm from March 20th onwards.
  • Taraweh will be led by a team of huffaz - their details are provided below.
  • Khateera will be delivered for 10 minutes after four Taraweeh every day.
  • Men will pray Taraweeh in the men's prayer hall downstairs as well as in the overflow areas generally used during Friday prayers.
  • Babysitting is available during the first 8 rikahs.  Details here.
  • Sisters with young children will pray in Rooms 214, 215, and 216.
  • Main prayer hall upstairs is designated for sister with kids 7 years and older.
  • Downstairs sisters prayer hall designated for seniors and handicapped only.
  • The verandah to the right of the upstairs prayer hall reserved for overflow.

            IFTAAR


            • There will be Iftaar available for the community on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the first two weeks in Ramadan, and then every day for the rest of the month.  These community iftaars have been sponsored by various people and groups.
            • Iftaar will be served in the Masjid's multi-purpose Hall (gym).
            • Everyone who attends an Iftaar meal is humbly requested to clean after themselves - please ensure any food that is left after the meal is properly disposed of.

            NEW JUMMAH FRIDAY PRAYER TIMES


            Inshaa Allah, starting from Friday, March 15th (1st Friday in Ramadan), we are changing the Friday Prayers schedule at Masjid AlSalam (Champions) to be unified year-around as follows:

            1st Prayer (Early Jummah):  Khutba begins at 12:15 PM, Prayer at 12:40 PM    
            2nd Prayer (Main Jummah):  Khutba begins at 01:35 PM, Prayer at 02:00 PM
            3rd Prayer (Late Jummah):  Khutba begins at 03:15 PM, Prayer at 03:30 PM

            CHARITY & FUNDRAISING


            • To pay your Zakah, Sadaqa, Fitra, or Fidya please visit the Donate link at alsalammasjid.org/give
            • Fundraising for Masjid's Expenses will be Friday, March 15th, the 5th of Ramadan, and on Friday, March 29th, the 19th of Ramadan.
            • Share the Khayr fundraiser by ISGH - any funds collected by ISGH are shared for local as well as International causes.
              • Please note that ISGH has arranged with major relief agencies that provide the boots on the ground for the causes ISGH supports, to NOT CHARGE ANY FEES to the donated amount.  This means that ALL of the donated money goes towards the designated cause.
            • Annual fundraiser that accompanies the Khatem-ul-Qur'an will be on April 5th, the 27th night of Ramadan.

            E'ITIKAF


            E'itikaf will start after Asr on the 20th night of Ramadan. All Mutakefeen need to review the rules for E'itikaf and register using the form provided below.

            TAHAJJUD


            • Tahajjud is planned in the last ten nights of Ramadan.
            • Starts Saturday, March 30th to Monday, April 8th, from 3:30 am - 4:30 am
            • There will be 8 rikah with no khatera
            • Sh. Mamdouh will lead the Tahajjud on Odd nights, and other huhhaz will lead on Even nights.
            • Masjid entrance gate will remain closed due to security. Entry will only be possible by using the RFID cards issued by the masjid. If you wish to get an RFID card please email the masjid administrator at [email protected].

            EID


            • There will be three or four Eid prayers held at our masjid InShaAllah,  on either Tuesday, Apr 9, or Wed, Apr 10, subject to moonsighting:
              • 1st: 7:30 am - Dr. Shaikh Mamdouh
              • 2nd: 9:00 am -Dr. Abdelhamid Moursy
              • 3rd: 10:30 am - Ustadh Fahad Tasleem
              • 4th: 12:00 noon - Br. Salman Ghani
