About the Robotics Competition:

  • Robotics team was formed in September 2018, to compete in the qualifier competition on December 15th, 2018
  • There were three areas the teams competed in:
  • 1- Robot Build
    • Our team used a standard Lego Mindstorm Robot kit and EV3 software to build their robot.
  • 2- Project
    • Teams were asked to identify and solve a problem that pertains to Astronauts, either physically or socially.
    • Our team tackled the problem of social isolation that a Muslim female astronaut would feel in space, and decided to design an outfit to help her pray while in space.  They also presented their design ideas to a NASA Muslim engineer, Mr. Kauser Imtiaz, and discussed ways to improve the design.  The demo outfit was created with the help of Ms. Seema Khan, a talented seamstress who worked with the girl scouts to sew the outfit that would fit their model doll.
  • 3- Core Values
    • Girl scouts were required to use the core values of  Teamwork, Professionalism, and Cooperation in each area of their project.
  • Awards
    • The STARBots 40648 team was awarded 3rd place in the Robotics missions, and 1st place in the Champions Awards category that is given to the team that excelled in all areas of the competition.
    • Our team was also selected to advance to the Regional competition.  There are 300 teams in the Houston area out of which only 100 are allowed to move to the regional level.
