Ramadan at Masjid AlSalam

ANNOUNCEMENT


Assalamu Alaykum.

The Houston Moon Sighting Committee, which includes Imams and Scholars of various Islamic Centers and Organizations in the Houston area, meet on the evening of Friday, February 28th, the 29th of Shabaan, to verify moon sighting reports and they have declared that Saturday, March 1st is the start of the blessed month of Ramadan.

RULES & GUIDELINES


Please adhere to the following rules and etiquettes when visiting the masjid this Ramadan - following these are essential for all attendees for a safe and tranquil experience at our masjid.

  • Please CARPOOL to avoid parking lot congestion. There is tremendous demand for parking during evenings in Ramadan and it makes everyone suffer.  Do a favor to yourself and others and carpool as much as possible.
  • No food is allowed in any of the prayer areas inside the masjid. Food should be consumed outside the masjid building or in the gym and must be properly disposed off.
  • Ensure you enter through the assigned doors. And children 5-9years are already dropped off at the designated babysitting area.
  • Please remain silent during salah and if children are restless and noisy please bring them outside the prayer areas.
  • Shoes MUST be put into the shoe racks.
  • Security guards will be present both inside and outside the building. Everyone is expected to follow the instructions provided by the security guards. If there are any complaints please do not directly engage with the security staff, rather bring it to the attention of any administration member, or post your comment on the Masjid' s website.
  • Drive SLOW within the masjid parking lot. There are children walking or playing in the parking lot at times (sometimes against rules) and they MUST BE PROTECTED.
  • Parents are requested to keep their children with them AT ALL TIMES. Please do not let them wander around by themselves.
  • In case of an emergency please follow the instructions provided by administration and the security staff.

PROGRAMS & EVENTS


TARAWEH & KHATERAH


  • There will be daily Taraweeh and Khaterah after Isha.
  • Taraweh will be led by a team of Huffaz - their details are provided below.
  • Khaterah will be delivered for 10 minutes after four Taraweeh every day.
  • Men will pray Taraweeh in the men's prayer hall downstairs as well as in the overflow areas generally used during Friday prayers.
  • Babysitting is available during the first 8 Rakahs.  For details please click HERE.
  • Sisters with young children will pray in Rooms 214, 215, and 216.
  • Main prayer hall upstairs is designated for sister with kids 7 years and older.
  • Downstairs sisters prayer hall designated for seniors and handicapped only.
  • The verandah to the right of the upstairs prayer hall reserved for overflow.

          IFTAAR


          • There will be Iftaar available for the community on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the first two weeks in Ramadan, and then every day for the rest of the month.  These community iftaars have been sponsored by various people and groups.
          • Iftaar will be served in the Masjid's multi-purpose Hall (gym).
          • Everyone who attends an Iftaar meal is humbly requested to clean after themselves - please ensure any food that is left after the meal is properly disposed of.

          CHARITY & FUNDRAISING


          • Zakat-ul-Fitra for this year is $15 per person.  This amount MUST be paid before Eid salah, but it is encouraged to be paid as soon as Ramadan begins to ensure it reaches the needy in the community as soon as possible.

          • Share the Khayr fundraiser by ISGH for supporting local & international causes will be after Jummah prayer on Friday, March 14th, the 14th of Ramadan.
          • Fundraising for Masjid's Expenses will be Friday, March 21st, the 22nd night of Ramadan.

          • Annual fundraiser for the Islamic Education Building will be on Wednesday, March 26th, the 27th night of Ramadan.

          • Khatam-ul-Qur'an and fundraising will be on Friday, March 28th, the 29th night of Ramadan.

          E'ITIKAF


          E'itikaf will start after Asr on the 20th night of Ramadan. All Mutakefeen need to review the rules for E'itikaf and register using the form provided below.

          TAHAJJUD

          • Tahajjud is planned in the last ten nights of Ramadan.
          • There will be no Witr.
          • Inshallah, the first Tahajjud prayer will be on Friday, March 21st, at 4:15 am (that is after Thursday Taraweeh).
          • We shall start at 4:15 am and finish around 5:05 - 5:10 am.
          • We will have four imams each leading two Rak’ahs - for a total of 8 Rak’ahs.
          • Each Rak’ah will be double the time of the regular Taraweeh prayer and will feature recitation of two or two and a half pages, with a total two Rak’ah time of about 13-15 minutes.
          • The order in which the imams will lead the prayers is as follows:
            1. Hafiz Faisal

            3. Hafiz Rayyan
            4. Sheikh M. Elemary

          EID


          • There will be three or four Eid prayers held at our masjid InShaAllah,  on either Sunday, March 30, or Monday, March 31st, subject to moonsighting:
            • 1st: 7:35 am - Dr. Sh. Abdurahman Hejazi
            • 2nd: 9:00 am - Dr. Sh. Abdurahman Hejazi
            • 3rd: 10:30 am - Sh. Fahad Tasleem
            • 4th: 12:00 noon - Br. Kamran Sabir
              • The mens prayer hall for the last prayer will be reserved only for families with special needs children.
